Marva Wright: Blues Queen of New Orleans
Mardi Gras Records presents Marva Wright - "Blues Queen of New Orleans"Given the rich musical history of New Orleans, referring to a lady who is a relative newcomer to the New Orleans scene as the "Blues Queen" of that city would seem rather presumptuous. But the citizens of New Orleans know their music and that is what they have tabbed Marva Wright. In 1987, Wright was a middle aged mother who decided to try out her homegrown singing talent as a means to make extra money to support her family. By 1989 she was holding court as a regular peformer at the legendary New Orleans venue "Tippitina's". Later in 1991 she made her National television debut in a New Orleans hosted Super Bowl special. That appearance lead to invitations to perform all around the United States and in country's all over the world. Her resume also includes performances as a back up singer for Allen Toussaint, Glen Campbell, Joe Cocker, Harry Connick Jr., Bobby McFerrin, Aaron Neville, Fats Domino, Lou Rawls, and Marcia Ball.
